Planning Your Walk

TIDES

Ynys Llanddwyn is a tidal island, meaning that it is still attached to the mainland, but it becomes an island during high tide. This is a very important factor you’ll need to consider prior to visiting as the schedule of the tides will dictate when the island is accessible to walk on. You don’t want to show up and not be able to see some of the most stunning parts of the walk, or even worse, end up stranded on the island when the tides rise due to poor planning. You can find the tides schedule here.

PARKING

For this hike, you’ll park at the Newborough Beach Car Park. Parking costs £5 for the first two hours and an additional 70p for every 20 minutes beyond that, to a maximum of £15 per day. A camera at the entrance barrier will read your vehicle registration number on arrival and you’ll pay by card or cash at the exit barrier as you drive out.

This parking lot has toilets available, which is very helpful, but make sure to note that they are only open from 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. in summer or 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. in winter, so plan accordingly.
